Di Gi Charat is an anime franchise revolving around the adventures of the alien catgirl princess named Dejiko and her dream of becoming an idol. The first Di Gi Charat anime came out in 1999 and is a series of 16 short episodes with no continuity. The hallmarks of this series are it's surreal and at times mean-spirited humor that is intended as satire on otaku culture.
After the first TV anime, there are four other animes, Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat (TV, 2002-2003), Di Gi Charat Nyo (TV, 2003-2004), Di Gi Charat: Winter Garden (TV, 2006), and Reiwa no Di Gi Charat (TV, 2022-2023)
And then there's the specials, the specials in chronological order are, Di Gi Charat Summer Special 2000 (TV, 2000,duh), Di Gi Charat Christmas Special (TV, 2000), Di Gi Charat Ohanami Special (TV, 2001), Di Gi Charat Tsuyu Specials (TV, 2001), Di Gi Charat Natsuyasumi Special (TV, 2001), and Di Gi Charat: Kuchi Kara Bazooka (TV, 2002). In addition to these specials there's also Di Gi Charat: Hoshi no Tabi (Movie, 2002) and Leave it to Piyoko!/Piyoko ni Omakase pyo! (OVA, 2003).
